Lessons & Recipes

Use our garden and kitchen classroom lessons and recipes to plan activities with students at home or at school. Download and print the Lesson Toolkit, which contains all the lessons in one document, or select individual lessons from the list.

Garden Lessons

Our garden lessons have been developed and refined over the 12 years we have been operating the Edible Schoolyard. These lessons and more are included in our new publication, Inside the Edible Schoolyard Classroom: The Garden Companion.

Kitchen Lessons

Kitchen lessons are delicious recipes, developed by Edible Schoolyard staff, accompanied by discussion notes, techniques, and, where possible, curriculum links. These lessons and many more are included in our new kitchen guide, Inside the Edible Schoolyard Classroom: The Kitchen Companion.

Classroom Lessons

We have developed a set of rigorous hands-on math tasks tied to standards called Making Mathematics Delicious. These lessons demonstrate the practical application of core mathematical concepts in the context of the kitchen and garden. These lessons and many more are included in Making Mathematics Delicious.

Handouts

These handouts represent the recipes from which our kitchen classes work. Because we are guided by the yield of our garden, our recipes are written for flexibility. Ultimately, these recipes allow students to go home and recreate what they have learned in class, empowered to make their own substitutions and additions.
